Psychotropic Prescriptions and Prescription Refills

Important Information Regarding Prescription Refills

Students receiving psychotropic medication at UChicago Student Wellness are responsible for medication refills. When meeting with your psychiatry provider, you are expected to obtain prescription refills or to make other refill arrangements at each appointment. To ensure appropriate and correct prescriptions, psychiatry providers will not respond to refill requests from pharmacies without direct communication from you.

NEW UCHICAGO STUDENT WELLNESS PATIENTS: If you are already taking a prescribed psychiatric medication, please be proactive if you plan to transfer care to UChicago Student Wellness, as it can take time to be evaluated and gather necessary records in order for our psychiatric providers to begin prescribing for you. Whenever possible, students are urged to plan ahead and obtain prescriptions from past providers until new care can be fully established.

If you need a prescription refill and do not have a scheduled appointment, contact your psychiatry provider by email at least one week before you run out of medication. Please be aware that refill requests may take up to three business days to process.

If you are unable to reach your psychiatry provider or learn that they are unavailable, you may contact the psychiatrist-on-call at 773.834.9355 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday–Friday. The psychiatrist-on-call will then determine whether to authorize or decline your request within three business days.
