UChicago Student Wellness has full-time phlebotomists on staff who perform laboratory testing daily. All laboratory tests require a written order from a physician or nurse practitioner.
Several lab tests are covered at no cost, but some lab testing will be billed to your insurance. For positive screening tests, additional confirmatory testing may be performed and billed to your insurance. If you have questions about which tests are covered, please consult with your provider.

Laboratory Service Provider Change
Student Wellness will be transitioning our laboratory service provider from the University of Chicago Medicine Laboratory to LabCorp starting June 10, 2026. This change reflects our ongoing commitment to improving service quality and expanding testing capabilities. For most students, this operational transition will have minimal impact on their experience at Student Wellness.
What remains unchanged:
- Student Wellness will continue to pay the lab fee for the majority of the labs offered at Student Wellness.
- Students will continue to receive high-quality lab results in a timely manner.
What will change:
- For labs not paid for by Student Wellness, students will receive a bill from LabCorp directly or after insurance has been billed. Previous billing was handled by UChicago Medicine.
- Students will have the ability to create an account with LabCorp to view their lab results and pay bills online.
- Lab results will no longer be available via UChicago MedicineMyChart. Students will be responsible for sharing lab results directly with any non-Student Wellness providers, including at UCM.

Outside Lab Orders
Effective July 1, 2025, all outside lab orders (from medical providers, including University of Chicago Medicine providers, treating UChicago students independently of SWC who submit lab requests) will be referred to the University of Chicago Medicine Laboratory (note address and contact information below).

Students utilizing the laboratory services at the University of Chicago Medicine will be required to provide valid health insurance information at the time of service. Please note UCM Labs’ billing practices at https://medlabs.uchicago.edu/client-support/billing/. UChicago Student Wellness will not be responsible for any billing pertaining to outside laboratory orders.
