Birth Control Consultations

If you have any questions about birth control options, or would like to start birth control, please make an appointment to schedule your visit. During your visit, you will get information on both hormonal and non-hormonal methods of birth control. If a prescription is necessary for you to start your method, you will receive it at this visit.

You do not need a referral to gynecology for IUD/implant insertion at UChicago Medicine. However, you do need to have urine pregnancy, gonorrhea, and chlamydia testing done prior to IUD insertion and pregnancy testing done prior to implant insertion. Testing must be the day before or same day as the insertion appointment.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception is used to prevent pregnancy in emergency situations following unprotected or underprotected intercourse. It is most effective if taken with five days of unprotected or underprotected sex. There are multiple emergency contraception options that are dosed based on your BMI (current height and weight).

Please call 773-834-9355 and speak with a nurse who will help get you the correct form of emergency contraception. No appointment needed. UChicago Student Wellness offers Emergency Contraception to all students.
