Nurse Advice

Call 773.834.9355 to speak to a Registered Nurse during clinic hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm).

The Registered Nurse will help answer your health care questions, explain potential care options (including emergency care), and, if necessary, help you find the nearest place to receive a diagnosis and treatment.

If outside clinic hours, please call 773.834.9355 to reach our 24/7 answering service with your concern.

HealthiestYou (24/7 telehealth)

When UChicago Student Wellness is closed or if a student would like a telehealth appointment right away, students can connect with a doctor 24/7 virtually through HealthiestYou. This service is free for students on U-SHIP. Students who are not on U-SHIP can use this service for a modest fee. Also, many insurance companies offer a free or low-cost telehealth service – please check with your insurance company.

Telehealth services are not intended to address emergency or life-threatening medical conditions.

Urgent Care / Convenience Care Clinics

There are several urgent care and convenience care clinics in Hyde Park. Some have evening and weekend availability, with the option to make appointments online, but please visit their websites or call to confirm. These options include:

Please know that the University does not endorse nor does it cover the costs of treatment at these external clinics.

Therapist-on-Call (24/7)

The Therapist-on-Call can be reached at 773.702.3625. The Therapist-on-Call will clarify the nature and specifics of your emergency, will offer acute help, and will offer suggestions for ongoing support, which may include scheduling an intake appointment, walking in to UChicago Student Wellness when open, or going to the nearest emergency room. The Therapist-on-Call does not schedule appointments or renew prescriptions.

TalkNow (24/7)

Eligible students have access to TimelyCare’s on-demand service, TalkNow. TalkNow is available 24/7 and connects students with a mental health professional. The staff are trained to work with any level of concern. For more information, visit the TimelyCare page.

TalkNow and the Therapist-on-Call provide similar services, although TalkNow offers both video and phone capability. If you are in a crisis and haven’t downloaded the TalkNow app, we encourage you to call the Therapist-on-Call at 773.702.3625.

During UChicago Student Wellness Office Hours

If you feel the need to meet with someone urgently during counseling and psychiatry office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.), call 773.834.9355 and ask to speak with the urgent care counselor.

You will be connected with the on-call UChicago Student Wellness staff therapist. The therapist will ask about your concerns and will suggest the most appropriate services.

If you declare that you are experiencing a psychological emergency, you will complete paperwork and meet with an urgent care therapist as quickly as possible. The urgent care therapist will take time to clarify and address your emergency concerns. Following the meeting, you may be assigned to a UChicago Student Wellness clinical staff member, referred to a private therapist or clinic, or scheduled for a more extended intake evaluation as soon as possible.

The following are the nearest pharmacies to the Hyde Park campus. Please check websites or call for pharmacy hours.

If you or somebody you know has been affected by sexual assault, you have resources and support available. You can also visit the Office of the Provost Equal Opportunity Programs website to find more information about getting help.

Not sure where to turn? The Dean-on-Call is an administrator and can be reached by calling the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) at 773.702.8181.
