Drink Responsibly

Beverages containing alcohol are often associated with unwinding, socializing, and having fun.
However, there are times when drinking too much can be harmful to you and others.

Remember, you don't need to drink alcohol to unwind, socialize, or have fun.
If you do want to drink alcohol, just 1 or 2 drinks is enough.

Moderation by numbers 
 

ZERO drinks if you:

  • are under 21 years of age

  • are pregnant or breast feeding

  • are driving a car, motorbike or other machinery

  • are taking medicine or other drugs

  • have alcohol dependence

Low-risk drinking for women:

  • No more than 3 drinks on any single day

  • No more than 7 drinks in any given week

Low-risk drinking for men: 

  • No more than 4 drinks on any single day

  • No more than 14 drinks in a given week

But what is a standard drink?

A standard drink is any drink that contains about 14 grams of pure alcohol (about 0.6 fluid ounces or 1.2 tablespoons). To the right are standard drink equivalents as well as the number of standard drinks in different container sizes for each beverage.

All drinks are not equivalent. A standard drink of wine is very differnt than a standard drink of beer or liquor.

Additionally, when you go out to a bar or restaurant, the drink you order is probably more than a standard drink. Keep in mind that your one or two drinks may actually be more.
