If you have a body, you have a body image. And if you're worried about being too fat or too thin, or feel unhappy with your personal appearance, you might be struggling with body image issues. Maintaining a healthy body image may be difficult for college or graduate students, but you're not alone, and there are many things you can do to feel better about yourself. Let’s work together to make UChicago a healthy, body-positive campus!
A healthy body image involves being comfortable in the body you have, and taking care of it, not thinking that your body is "perfect". It also means basing your self-esteem on many aspects of who you are as a person, not just how much you weigh. Research shows that the better you feel about yourself, the better you will take care of yourself, meaning that when you acheive a positive body image you'll be more likely to take care of yourself as well!
We hope that the information provided here will help you learn to love your unique body. However, if you, or someone you know, is struggling with eating concerns or suffering from an eating disorder, please contact Student Counseling Service so that they can offer individual assistance.
