Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College and Graduate Students (CASICS)

Appointments will be made available in the Winter 2026 Quarter

CASICS is a supportive, judgment-free program for students who are curious about their cannabis use. In a relaxed, private, non-judgemental conversation with a health promotion coordinator from UChicago Student Wellness, you’ll have the chance to explore your habits, learn more about how cannabis can affect you, and decide what (if anything) you’d like to do differently.

Whether you’re just reflecting, thinking about making changes, or simply want more information, all are welcome! CASICS is all about meeting you where you are and helping you reduce risk and support your overall well-being.

CASICS offers a chance to learn more about your cannabis use in a supportive, non-judgmental way. You can explore how your use fits into your life, see how it compares with other college and graduate students, consider any changes you might want to make, and gain tools to support your health and well-being moving forward.

CASICS is a program designed for both undergraduate and graduate students who use cannabis. It’s appropriate for any student—whether you’re concerned about your use or simply curious and want to learn more about how your cannabis use compares to other college and graduate students.

No. While someone in the campus community may encourage you to attend CASICS, you do not need a referral to participate. Voluntary appointments are welcome.

Nothing. CASICS is offered to all UChicago students free of charge.

CASICS involves a total of two sessions held one-on-one with our CASICS facilitator. The initial session is 90-minutes where the facilitator will orient you to the CASICS program, learn more about you, and your cannabis consumption patterns. You will also have the opportunity to take a confidential assessment to receive personalized feedback on your current use.

The second session is 60-minutes and typically takes place two weeks after your initial session. During the second session, you will receive feedback about your use of cannabis and have the opportunity to discuss risk reduction options.

Please keep in mind that CASICS is not therapy or substance abuse treatment.

CASICS sessions are by appointment only and will open in Winter Quarter 2026. Appointments can be scheduled by logging into the my.WellnessPortal. Please call UChicago Student Wellness at 773.834.9355 if you need assistance booking an appointment. If you cannot find an appointment time that works with your schedule, please contact Karina Wilson.

CASICS offers both in-person and virtual appointments. While we highly encourage in-person sessions for the most engaging experience, we understand that life happens. Virtual appointments are available to help reduce barriers to access and ensure that support remains flexible, convenient, and accessible to all students.

Students who opt for virtual appointments must be located in the United States at the time of their appointment.
